New Delhi: The 2014 Forbes India Celebrity 100 in its third
year has found a new leader. For the first time in his three-year career, Shah
Rukh Khan has been knocked out of the top spot by teammate and team-mate Salman
Khan. Reason: The star did not have a movie release (except for a cameo) in the
period considered for this list (from October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014).
Consequently, it is in number 3.
Salman Khan, meanwhile, has topped the charts, both in terms
of income and fame - a first for a topper of Forbes India's celebrity list.
Clearly, although controversy and court cases continue to lose the actor, his
influence has only continued to grow with his blockbusters, television
appearances and his charitable trust 'Being Human'.
Slot No 2 is occupied by Bollywood's longest-running star
Amitabh Bachchan, who has climbed three positions this year. His celebrity was
bolstered by his close to 12 million Twitter followers, the largest for anyone
on that platform in India.
Despite a quiet year, the Shah Rukh Khan fortress at the top
of the list can be attributed to its undiminished brand value which has earned
him approximately Rs 202 crore (the highest through endorsements). With 22 of
these deals in hand, it has approved the highest number of brands this year. On
the same account, however, he could only get a No. 7 that cost him the top
slot.
The top 5 in the 2014 Forbes India Celebrity 100 dominates
the earnings raffle, accounting for up to 35 percent of the Top 100's total
revenue. However, like last year, the top 10 still has only one woman-this
time, Deepika Padukone replaces Katrina Kaif.
Preity Zinta makes a surprise entry on the list of
celebrities at number 14 on the back of his account of fame that far exceeds
his relatively insignificant earnings. His film career, however, had no role to
play in this. It was his spit with Ness Wadia, co-owner of King's XI Punjab
IPL, and the strong performance of the team that secured media coverage.
Other notable highlights of the list include singer Arijit
Singh, cricket player Ajinkya Rahane and old and new actors from Bollywood and
South: Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Rajinikanth and his son-in-law Dhanush are
among the 20 debutantes. Ten others, including Sunny Leone, MC Mary Kom, Kangna
Ranaut and Imtiaz Ali- return to the list.
TV comedian Kapil Sharma has made the biggest rise this
year: he is up 60 places to 33 as his show "Comedy Nights With Kapil"
continues to delight audiences. The singers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Mika Singh
have also made significant progress to the numbers 16 and 40, from their
previous slots of 59 and 74 respectively.
The composition of the list has also seen a slight shift in
gender balance. There are now 28 women compared to 21 last year. Of these, five
are repatriated while five debuted on the list. Women's celebrities also
outperformed men in airtime purchased for television commercials. The first
three slots of the top 10 television endorsers are occupied by actors Kareena
Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif.
The 2014 Forbes India Celebrity 100 this year is a
five-sided special: Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh
and Sania Mirza. The star lineup also includes features from filmmakers Imtiaz
Ali and AR Murugadoss, singer Arijit Singh, Olympic boxing medalist Mary Kom
and cricket player Ajinkya Rahane.

profit before tax is combined with your fame ratings to reach the Forbes 100
Celebrity India List.
