Bollywood actor Salman Khan has filed a defamation suit
against a television news channel in the Bombay court and has struck damages
worth Rs100 crore.
Salman Khan
Salman Khan was accused of hunting a chinkara at Bhawad near
Jodhpur and another chinkara at Ghoda farms during the filming of his film 'Hum
Saath Saath Hain' in September 1998.
According to sources, Salman Khan claimed that a sting
operation carried out by the channel in the 1998 Chinkara poaching case was
malicious and defamatory. Salman Khan wants the channel to be prevented from
releasing or making public in any way, any part of that sting operation.
The channel said in the bite operation "witnesses said
they saw Khan shoot the endangered chinkaras in Jodhpur." However, later
the "witness / became hostile and stated that the video was doctado".
At a previous hearing on August 24 of this year, the channel
told a single HC bank that it had already removed the video and script of the
bite operation and all related material from its website.
At a hearing earlier this month, both parties filed
affidavits and told the court that they were working on an agreement.
Judge SJ Kathawalla, who is presiding over the case, will
hear the case on November 18.
